No Out of competition medication Tests For UFC 174 According to BCAC

(Update – July 11, 2014 – The BCAC has altered their setting as well as did indeed implement an out of competition test prior to UFC 174 on Bagautinov)

UFC 174 will be the promotion’s very first event regulated under the recently developed office of the British Columbia athletic Commissioner.

With the huge show coming to town BC’s athletic Commissioner just recently released their PED policies outright banning Testosterone Replacement Therpay TUE’s.

Despite this aggressive stance on TRT, the BCAC appears to be limiting their testing to publish event screening.  Unlike the Nevada specify athletic compensation who are slowly embracing a policy of more out of competition testing, the BCAC obviously is not prepared to take such steps at this time.  I contacted BC’s athletic Commissioner, Dave Maedel, asking for the complying with clarification of their anti doping measures:

“the sections dealing with testing procedures are not remove on whether out of competition tests will Camiseta Selección de fútbol de México be conducted or if tests are restricted only to events.  Is it your office’s setting that out of competition testing (for licensed combatants) is enabled or is testing strictly going to be restricted to at event testing?”

To which the BCAC replied as follows:

“At this time, we will be limiting to in competition testing only.”

A quick legal breakdown exposes that the BCAC has the capability to conduct out of competition testing if they so wish with section 46(2)(o) of the athletic Commissioner Act enabling “drug as well as alcohol testing of expert athletes on a random basis or otherwise“.  With this framework at hand regulation 21 was passed which needs that “on request of the commissioner, a contestant must report for as well as provide samples for testing for the existence of a banned substance.“.   The meaning of “contestant” includes licensed contestants for the function of Section 21 meaning the Commissioner has jurisdiction to request medication screening as soon as a contestant licence is granted.

Anti doping measures in MMA continue to evolve and, as previously discussed, athletic Commissions should check out more aggressive testing policies to weed out cheating.  Given the reported doping history Camiseta SC Braga against one of the combatants contending at UFC 174 (which are obviously disputed by the competitor in question)the BCAC should comply with the NSAC’s lead as well as be available to Camiseta Real Betis Balompie broadening their testing  to include pre bout screening.
